DermTV Very Itchy Fingers, a.k.a. Dishydrosis DermTV Epi '6
Hello, I'm Dr. Neal Schultz pause And welcome to DermTV. This may be the season for itchy skin, but chances are if it's your fingers that are itching, it's not because they're dry. Most of the time, itchy fingers are caused by a condition called Dishydrosis and the itch it causes can really drive you crazy. And it's not just itching that Dishydrosis causes You actually get little bumps on the bottom and sides of your fingers. And the bumps are actually tiny blisters. Dishydrosis literally means, bad sweating, and it used to be thought that these crazily itchy bumps.
Were filled with sweat. That's why it was named Dishydrosis. But the fluid isn't sweat it's actually serum, which is the clear fluid in your blood. The most common cause of Dishydrosis is extreme stress, although not every outbreak can be linked directly to a stressful situation. On a personal note, I can tell you that I've only experienced Dishydrosis once in my life. It was early in my medical training after a very stressful night of being up all night taking care of a lot of very sick patients. The next morning the hospital dermatologist was making rounds.
And I showed him my hands, and he said, Boy you must have had a really rough night. So. The itching and bumps both finally go away after a few days. As it gets better, there are these really interesting telltale little collars of dead flaky skin that peel off. Those tiny matchhead size collars of dead skin get larger. and then smaller. over a few days and are caused by the bubble of serum as it rises through the higher levels of the epidermis. It's like taking horizontal slices through a sphere.
Starting tiny at the bottom, then getting larger, and finally smaller again. To treat the itching and bumps, topical cortisone creams and antiitch lotions with menthol are best. If that doesn't stop the itch, cold water can usually give temporary relief, but never try to stop the itching with hot water. Even though hot water feels good and stops the itch, it also causes the itch to come back worse a few minutes later. After the itch and bumps are gone, the flaking skin can continue for a week. It can be camouflaged with a moisturizer,.
Apple Cider Vinegar For Yeast Infection Is Apple Cider Vinegar Good For Candida
Greetings. Eric Bakker, naturopath from New Zealand, author of Candida Crusher, formulator of the Canxida range of dietary supplements. Thanks for checking out my tutorial. A question I get asked from time to time is Eric, is apple cider vinegar any good for people with yeast infections It is. It is very good. But listen up it's very important for you to get the right kind of apple cider vinegar. Braggs makes quite a good apple cider vinegar. It's a raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar. We have a really nice one here in New Zealand.
And the brand is called Coral Tree, and it's actually made from apples fermented in oak barrels from biodynamically grown apples. Organics are here. Biodynamics are just a little bit higher than organic, so they're very, very high quality products when you buy the Demeter certified, which is a funny little sort of peanut shape character. The Demeter, I think they call it, certification for biodynamic is an extremely high standard. If you can get a biodynamically certified, beautiful quality apple cider vinegar, which is naturally fermented in a wooden barrel, you've got a really good product.
This is a fermented food or otherwise known as cultured. These foods like the cider vinegar are okay for a Candida yeast infection internally and externally. Keep away from commercialized, mass produced apple cider vinegars in supermarkets in plastic bottles. They're junk. Just keep away from that sort of crap. It's the same with olives and pickles and crap like that from supermarkets that's been commercially fermented in lye or just in cheap sort of waters with chemicals added. I hate olives like that. I prefer to buy olives from those.
Big buckets at the Greek or Italian shops the way that mama used to make it a long time ago. When you're looking at foods that have been preserved according to techniques that have been going on for hundreds and hundreds of years, you're usually getting a better quality product than something that comes from a factory using a lot of white sugar, which is usually a junk product. Vinegar has had a bad rap for a long time with Candida, but a good quality fermented apple cider vinegar, there's nothing wrong.
With it at all. It's great to use as a vaginal douche. Guys can use it for a jock itch rinse. You can soak your feet in apple cider vinegar. You can wash different parts of your body if you've got fungal infections. You can use it on psoriasis. You can use it on your scalp, flaky scalp, dandruff. You can soak your toenails in straight apple cider vinegar. So there are many applications. It's also really good for your stomach. It can create some burning sensations if you take it too strong, so you might need to dilute.
It down. I've also had a patient a while ago with a very itchy rectal area, he got incredible relief by using enemas with cider vinegar and water. He said the itch went away within a week. It disappeared. So for itching hemorrhoids it can be used. It can be used for many different applications. Yes, apple cider vinegar is good to take internally also. Small amounts. You might want to put one or two teaspoons of a good quality, organically fermented and made apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. You can have small sips.
Do Antibiotics Cause Yeast Infections
Good day, Eric Bakker, naturopath with another frequently asked question. Do antibiotics cause yeast infections This is a question that many people ask. Many people do take antibiotics, unfortunately, and in my opinion, antibiotic drugs are one of the number one causes of chronic yeast infections. Particularly, the prolonged and inappropriate and excessive use of broad spectrum antibiotics. Antibiotics are prescribed on quite a large and wide scale to kill diseasecausing bacteria, but unfortunately, they also kill healthy, normal, flora throughout the body and they can actually encourage yeast infections in many people. So antibiotics are implicated.
And, in my mind, would be one of the prime causes of yeast infections and recurring chronic yeast infections in many patients. One factor that many people don't realize is did you know that most antibiotic drugs are actually themselves developed from chemicals found in fungi species. So fungi actually create certain chemicals which kill bacteria around them. So by using certain chemicals and creating drugs from them, we can effectively kill bacteria yet allow the yeast to proliferate. So this is one reason why antibiotics are so effective at killing bacteria but allowing.
Their own species to thrive. So it's a little known fact. Another little known fact which you may not be aware of is the use of antibiotics in commercial meat poultry for example, chickens, and commercial chickens contain many different types of antibiotics. When you see how poultry are kept crammed in cages, it's not hard to see why they give them antibiotics to prevent diseases. So if you're eating commercial poultry, I recommend you go to Wikipedia and look up antibiotics in chicken or poultry. You might be quite surprised what you find.
So, yes they are. They're certainly implicated in the development and progression of a yeast infection. In fact, Dr. William Cook wrote extensively about antibiotics in his book, The Yeast Infection. It's a good book and well worth the read for you. So avoiding antibiotic drugs is one step in the right direction if you want to avoid yeast infections and particularly if you want to permanently cure your yeast infection. In my book, Candida Crusher, I've written about the 11 main causes of yeast infections, and antibiotic drugs, unfortunately, are on top of the list. So I do hope that answers.
Yeast Infections Boys Town Pediatrics
Occasionally diaper rashes can become infected with yeast. Yeast just lives on the skin in general and it likes warm moist environments that are dark to start growing. So if you've had a diaper rash that's been there for three days, is one clue. If it has kind of a beefy red appearance and especially if there are little red dots that we call satellite lesions scattered in the area, those may be signs of yeast infections. It doesn't happen as frequently if you're changing the diapers frequently but if you.
Have a diaper rash that is already there and you leave a diaper on for a long time it is more likely it is going to turn into a yeast infection. If the yeast infection goes on and on it can involve more of a widespread area, it can break down the skin, that skin can then become infected with bacteria on top of the yeast and just become more difficult to treat and more painful for your baby. You can come in and be seen with those and you can also try some home treatments with.
Overthecounter medicine like Clotrimazole which is available over the counter, usually in the athlete's foot section. It's fine to put in that diaper area. So you are going to want to put your medicated ointment on first and then put your barrier ointment on top of that, your petroleum jelly, your Desitin, your Boudreaux's, your A and D, whichever, and in general just stay away from the powders. We don't want to use the cornstarch, the talcum powers, the baby powders, just your creams and ointments. If it is not responding to that medication or if it looks like there may be something.
Else going on make sure to come in and see your doctor. The main thing is try to keep a dry diaper on as frequent as possible so it doesn't mean at the first sign of pee you have to change but try to avoid those times with prolonged episodes of sitting in a wet diaper. Those episodes are the settings where the fungus thrives. When you start to see a little bit of a rash go ahead and start using diaper ointment and just use thick amounts of it. If your use a thin amount it just isn't.
Does Stress Cause Yeast Infections
Good day, Eric Bakker here again with another frequently asked question regarding yeast infection. Does stress cause yeast infections Stress causes many different problems in the body, many different problems, and a good way for you probably to look at it from this angle is that about 90 percent of all visits to the doctor are because of a stressrelated complaint. So stress has an amazingly insidious effect on the immune system. In the initial stages of stress when a person's under high stress, they will have heightened hormone response they'll have more cortisol and more adrenaline, in particular. The adrenals are going to pump.
Out more of these hormones to allow you to cope with the acute manifestations of stress. However, once stress continues unabated, you keep having these problems long term, relationship problems or money problems, many different types of issues that face us on a daytoday basis. When they become chronic and longterm, even though low grade, they'll have a depleting effect on the adrenal system, what we call the HPA stress excess. And over time, these hormones actually will not only decrease in quantity, but their activity will decrease in the body. The cells become less responsive requiring even more hormones to be pumped.
Out and produced. Over a period of time, it's just not really going to happen and you slowly slide into a condition we call adrenal fatigue. I'm going to explain a lot more about the adrenalyeast connection in other tutorials. But stress is certainly implicated with yeast infections. How do you know that yeast infections are caused by stress If you take a look at my book, I think it's page 469 in my book. You can read a lot more about the adrenal stress connection with immunity. Have a look at the other type of problems that you may be facing.
Like fatigue, insomnia, irritability, in particular. There are different ways that stress can affect you in terms of a yeast infection. First thing I would ask you, what type of stresses have you faced in the past several years Can you remember any stressful events which preceded the diagnosis of this yeast infection, for example There's often a link there. If you think carefully, you'll find a connection there. So as cortisol goes down further and further, it's going to be harder for your immune system to stay strong, which will increase your susceptibility and reduce.
Your resistance. I generally draw a line for a patient when I see them to explain this concept, and I'll put susceptibility on one side and resistance on the other side, and I'll draw a little triangle here in the middle. As your susceptibility decreases, your resistance goes up. And vice versa will happen. When this goes down, this goes up. As things are getting harder for you to cope with and you become more stressed, your resistance goes down and your susceptibility will come up. I call these events contributing to that health busters. Health builders are things you can.
